Putting Money in the State’s—and Your—Pocket!
I am pleased to offer several programs like ABLE and Unclaimed Property to put extra money in your pocket. The Treasurer’s Office also facilitates college scholarships, tax free college savings plans, and more than doubled payments to state agencies by successfully investing the General Fund. We have multiplied returns on the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) over 10 times to better serve your county. I want to ensure the financial well-being of the State and each Nevada Resident as well.
This program is just what it sounds like: a way for you to reclaim property that has been lost over time by you or family members. Businesses and financial institutions are required to contact you if they have your property. If they are unable to reach you, the property is safeguarded by our office.
The process to search for unclaimed property was cumbersome. It often took months for Nevadans to claim their property. We’ve streamlined the process, and it now takes less than 25 days after submitting a claim for you to receive what belongs to you.
In 2017, Nevada joined 13 other states in the implementation of the ABLE Act (Achieving a Better Life Experience). The Nevada ABLE Act allows the creation of a special savings account for those with disabilities. Eligible Nevadans can use this account to pay for personal expenses aimed at improving their lives. Family members and friends are able to contribute to the account. The Treasurer’s Office has been working closely with the Aging and Disability Services Division of the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services to create a program that truly benefits the Nevadans who need it most.
I hope the above provides you with greater insight into some of the services offered to you through our office. To find out more about these programs, please visit http://www.nevadatreasurer.gov/
